Oladipo acquired by the Indiana Pacers along with Domantas Sabonis from the Oklahoma City Thunder in a trade that netted shockingly little return for Paul George returns to the state where he transformed from three star recruit to consensus First Team All American and elite NBA prospect.

The 41st ranked Rivals shooting guard in the 2010 class visited Bloomington the first week of September 2009. He committed four days later and signed with the Hoosiers in February.

He made a name for himself with his ability to defend other elite players in the country and we feel that defensive mindset, along with his ever improving offensive skills , will help him have a very strong career at Indiana, said second year head coach Tom Crean when Oladipo signed. That toughness and will also applies academically, and we feel he will be an asset to IU as well.

The Maryland prospect was joining a program that took a historically terrible nosedive from 25 victories and an AP top 10 ranking in 2007 08 to six wins and 21 losses in their final 22 games in 2008 09. Despite the plunge, Oladipo picked the Hoosiers over Maryland, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh and Crean s former program, Marquette.

On Oct. 26, 2010, two weeks before Oladipo had even made his college debut, USA Today published an article titled, Indiana s Victor Oladipo gives Hoosiers fans a reason for hope.

You just need to watch Victor in person, sophomore forward Christian Watford said prior to Oladipo s debut in November. I see him every day, so I ve started to get a feel for what he can do. But he s a special player. I think Indiana basketball fans are going to be impressed.

Oladipo Indiana

Watford was correct. Oladipo quickly developed into one of the best all around players in program history. After leading the Hoosiers to 56 wins over his final two years 2011 13 , back to back Sweet Sixteen appearances and their first AP No. 1 ranking since 1993, he declared for the 2013 NBA Draft and was taken second overall by the Orlando Magic.

Four NBA seasons and two trades later, he s in Indianapolis, 50 miles northwest of Assembly Hall, where he wowed Hoosier fans with high flying dunks Victor Oladipo Jersey, relentless rebounding and lockdown defense.

In any of the other 29 NBA cities, Oladipo would just be the guy we traded Paul George for. In Indianapolis, he s Victor Oladipo, a Hoosier legend.
